Frame Loom Weaving Class


6 weeks (six two hour classes)

January 18 – February 22, Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00pm

Students warp a frame loom, learn fundamental tapestry weaving techniques and make and finish a small weft faced weaving.  Visual introduction of handweaving and textile art are interlaced with instruction.

Materials fees include purchase of a weaving frame, simple weaving tools and yarn for weaving during class.

This beginning weaving class introduces the basic elements of weaving and tapestry technique. Students will learn the fundamentals for creating woven art and functional items such as bags, mats and rugs. It can be a fun way to incorporate collected shells, driftwood, special buttons or beads into woven art! Weaving techniques taught will include plain weave, color blending, warp & weft stripes and rya knots and fringe. Setting up – warping – and finishing methods will be included. Registration to this 6-week course includes a frame loom, simple weaving tools, warp thread and a wide selection of wool yarn for use during class.

Peggy is an award-winning teaching artist trained in visual art and textiles. Peggy paints, collages, sews and weaves. She has been inspiring youth and adult students to learn and create for more than 25 years. If Peggy isn’t in a classroom, art studio or her garden, she might be found at a garage sale or wandering around a hardware store imagining artistic uses for the objects she sees.
