Children’s Book – Narrative Workshop


Introduction to Children’s Book Illustrations
5 Sunday afternoons, 2-5pm
April 14th, 21, 28 & May 5th and 12th

During this five session course we will network and build our knowledge of book and page design for children’s book illustration. Touching on basics of :page turns, layout, drawing, composition, character development, thumbnails, movement, publishing, portfolios and more.

Each workshop session will start with a lesson and discussion, move into work time, and often end with mini critiques and the sharing of ideas. Each person will be working on  finishing at least one three panel illustrative narrative. Finished narratives have an opportunity to be entered in Dragon Arts first Narrative Art Competition and Show.
Basic materials will be available during all the classes, but artists are welcome to bring their own mediums if they prefer.

Kassy Kppol lives among the dragons and fairies in Oregon. She is an illustrator, crafter, writer, teacher, wife and mother. Winning her first illustration award in kindergarten for a picture of a caged witch, now she is an active SCBWI member, and Oregon Writing Project Teacher Consultant, and has a Masters in Teaching, a Masters Certification in Illustration, and a Masters of Fine Arts in Children’s Book Writing and Illustration.
