Description
Ready to get back into clay? This 7-week ceramics class is designed for students who have taken a beginner ceramics class before, such as Sarai’s beginner course, or for those who have worked with clay in the past and are ready to pick it back up. Taught by current long-term Artist in Residence Erin Ellis, the class will focus primarily on wheel throwing while giving students the support and guidance they need to build confidence and develop their skills.
Erin will help students strengthen their understanding of the pottery wheel, from centering and pulling walls to shaping and finishing functional forms. Students will also have opportunities to explore other handbuilding techniques and experiment with their own ideas. Basics of trimming, glazing, firing, and studio tool use will be included.
Registration for this 7-week course includes one 25-pound bag of clay and a full level (2 kiln shelves) of finished, fired work.
This class is reserved for adults who register for the course.
• Erin Ellis is from Chapel Hill, NC. Erin is a mostly self taught potter working mainly at night and on weekends as her previous full time job in printing would allow. Her journey in clay started about 5 years ago during the pandemic. What started as a hobby quickly became her passion that she knew she must pursue further.
Erin creates mostly functional work but is not afraid to experiment. She finds inspiration in folk art and nature, incorporating natural shapes and patterns into her work. Woodfired work as well as glaze exploration are her passion.
